New Video Converter Technology

Everyone has a way of capturing their lives on video these days. It is a wonderful way to share the events and people one loves the most with everyone they know. There are so many incredible camcorders on the market today that take high quality footage of everything the user chooses to share.

The other side of capturing the footage is the editing of the footage. Having a great Video Converter is also important when it comes to editing the footage one has captured. The technology for converting and editing has come a long way in today’s market. It really does matter what kind of software one uses. The better the converting and editing software the better end result. If you have a great camcorder or other recording device but have bad editing software it will downgrade the footage and it won’t turn out as well as you want it to.

Pick software that works with many DVD formats so you will have many options to work with. Pick something that is user friendly so the learning curve is lessened. There is even software out there that works with multiple languages. When you meet those new friends in other countries you will be able to share the video footage with them in their own language.

London Time is Pub Time

If you’ve in London on a business trip and there’s a late afternoon meeting scheduled on a Friday, text your apologies, see if the meeting can be rescheduled for another time and conveniently slip away to a pub instead. Don’t worry about the others at the meeting, because most of them will have made their excuses as well. It’s London after all and a Friday to boot!

Hopefully, you’re staying at a London hotel in the financial district known as the City. There are countless pubs and bars, from the old haunts of Charles Dickens to the smart bars for the lawyers, bankers and other City professionals in need of a little afternoon refreshment as well.

On Fleet Street, the former home of the British press and was once known for centuries as the ‘street of adventure’ for all the foreign correspondents, but now it’s known as the ‘Street of Shame’ for the tabloid press reporters. It is here where you’ll find the Ye Olde Cheshire Cheese pub, which was rebuilt after the 1666 Great Fire of London . This wood-paneled, sawdust-strewn pub was where Charles Dickens and other illustrious former regulars such as literary giants Alfred Tennyson, Oliver Goldsmith, Sir Arthur Conan Doyle and Samuel Johnson all went when they too did not want to attend a late afternoon business meeting.

If the Cheese is crowded, you might try the Lamb Tavern, located at the heart of the covered Leadenhall Market, which was first built in 1309 and also rebuilt after the Great Fire. If however, you prefer a more modern vibe, not too far away is the sleek, slick ‘Revolution in the City’ bar, which is situated across from the famous Lloyds of London and the Gherkin building. On the same side of the street is the Abacus bar.

London pubs in the late afternoon are a place not to be missed, but if you feel you can’t cancel that meeting, at least see if it can be moved to… let’s say a pub?

DJ Carioca in San Francisco

The scene in San Francisco is a remarkable experience in exploring the flavors of world cultures, and experiencing them in new blends. It’s a city that recognizes that there is no pure cultural form, not here, because everything comes from somewhere else, or is influenced by something else, due to the city’s taste for the cosmopolitan. One can find any number of cultural expressions here, where European, Asian, African, and Latin-descended populations have active participants in the city’s art community.

For any kind of music, then, there are practitioners here who specialize, and have done so for many years. This means that the locals, and any guest in a San Francisco hotel , can have access to stunning new work by the world’s top artists. There are plenty of folk bands, who play traditional popular songs from their particular vantage point, and there are also artists like DJ Carioca , who takes the traditional music of Brazil and sets it to electronic beats for electrifying performances that are impossible to sit still to.

The traditional music isn’t exactly traditional either. There are mixes of forro and samba that have already departed from the traditional in their Brazilian manifestations. The result is a music that is perhaps two or three times removed from its source, but the new vision under electronic guidance brings about the same life and energy as the originals, sweetening the present moment as it embraces and recuperates a living history.

Map Collection Includes Ancient and Modern

Since they were first invented and drawn out with sticks in the dirt and painted on walls, maps have performed an invaluable service to humankind and they have also represented some symbolic aspects of a pioneering spirit and chartering new territories. Meanwhile, one of the trends that developed in the twentieth century is to collect maps. And while the latest edition of your local city map is unlikely to be framed and make the wall of many libraries, one of the ancient world maps that is not only beautifully detailed but also shows the development of national histories and a perspective on the shape on content of the world itself, likely will.

There are other maps that are interesting and collectible and many people who are obsessed with this hobby or pastime have numerous volumes of maps from all over the world. It is possible to find numerous editions of a single state such as an Alaska map , in a collection that spans decades over even centuries. And one of the things collectors love is to compare the new edition to previous ones and chart any new developments or changes. This is an extremely engaging hobby and most of the people who collect maps also study history and the two fields complement each other in an overall global awareness practice. And while this is true for many people, a comprehensive study of world history is generally not the aspect that originally enticed them into the hobby.

Culture and Menu Covers

One of the easiest ways into understanding a person, or a culture, for that matter, is through their rituals related to food. It’s been said many times that the way to the heart is through the stomach, and that’s certainly the case. But there’s much more than that, even.

Today, contemporary culture is often described as being lacking in ritual. If that is true to some degree, the way the same culture relates to food undermines the argument. When it comes to dining, the rituals and accoutrements are very complex. Because they are a part and parcel of how people express themselves every day, many of these elements are unconscious.

In the same way one would expect to see white linen tablecloths, and menu covers at a fine restaurant, the objects related to food are indeed like ‘anthropological artifacts .’ That they are still in use doesn’t make them any less so, but perhaps it’s more difficult to read them as such.

People do expect certain things to indicate that this particular dining experience is better than any other. Those artifacts are never mere symbols that make suggestions, but are in fact, clues toward the magnificent feast that is to come. Cultures read these signs, and they plan their social lives accordingly, and one object can indeed make all the difference in the world.
